Understand
instead of programming.
Your students should be able to read and understand project files, not struggle with engineering tools not built for the classroom.
venfree Edu gives you back the time you need for what matters: deeper project thinking, real understanding.
The problem in the classroom
The ETS is an engineering tool. Not a teaching tool.
Expensive licences
Every student PC needs an ETS licence. School budgets are limited, money better spent on hardware or teaching materials.
Windows-only
The ETS only runs on Windows. Schools with mixed systems or tablets have no option.
Complex tool, scarce classroom time
Instead of teaching project logic, valuable class time flows into introducing an engineering tool not built for classrooms.
All or nothing
You can't show students a project without also exposing security keys and device configurations. No granular control.
No understanding goal
Students learn to click buttons but not to understand why a group address is linked to a room. Engineering tools optimise for engineering, not for learning outcomes.
Fewer ETS clicks.
More project understanding.
When students need to understand a KNX project, they don't need full ETS access. They need a clear, focused view: topology, group addresses, room structure. venfree gives you exactly that, and gives you your classroom time back.

What venfree Edu can do
Everything you need for the classroom. Nothing that gets in the way.
KNX & Loxone available · Shelly & more comingOpen project files without a licence
Students import a .loxone or .knxproj file and immediately see: topology, group addresses, devices, room structure. Clear, organised, readable, without a single ETS licence.
Health check as a teaching tool
Give your students a .knxproj with intentional errors. venfree finds them: missing links, inconsistent topologies, orphaned devices. A ready-made classroom exercise.
Smart export in class
Show students how to export a project for different recipients: What does the homeowner see? The facility manager? The manufacturer support? Granular control as a learning topic.
Every platform, every device
Windows, macOS, Linux, browser. Whatever your school has, venfree runs on it. Desktop app for full offline capability, web version for quick onboarding.
Data stays at school
Desktop app: No data leaves the device. No cloud, no upload, no tracking. Privacy as it should be, especially with underage students.
My students should understand why group address 1/2/3 controls the hallway light, not where to find it in the ETS. venfree shows exactly that.

Error hunting in a KNX project
60–90 min · IntermediateOffice building with 8 built-in errors, orphaned devices, empty lines, duplicate group addresses, missing room assignments. Students use the health check and document their findings.
Export profiles: who sees what?
45–60 min · Easy–IntermediateClean office project incl. security GA group. Students create exports for homeowner, facility manager, manufacturer support and electrician, and discuss which data is sensitive.
Simulate a project handover
60–90 min · AdvancedSingle-family home project for role play: Group A (client) creates a defect list, Group B (integrator) responds. Conclude with a joint acceptance meeting.
Generated without ETS, venfree-compatible, KNX standard format (ETS5/6). Teacher handout with tasks and solution hints available on request.

I learned KNX at vocational school myself and know the ETS from my training. I'm building venfree because I know there has to be a better tool, for students, for teachers, for the whole industry. Built in Germany, hosted in Nuremberg, GDPR-compliant.
