Loxone Miniserver

The Loxone Miniserver is the central control unit of a Loxone system. It processes logic locally without cloud dependency, connects sensors and actuators via proprietary Loxone extensions and is programmed using Loxone Config software.

Function and Architecture

The Miniserver takes on the role in a Loxone system that a programming device and PLC would play together in KNX. It executes all logic locally: lighting, blinds, heating, audio and security run without an internet connection.

External connectivity is via Ethernet (LAN). Loxone extensions such as the Extension Bus, DALI extensions or KNX Tree extensions connect directly. Third-party protocols like KNX IP, Modbus and EnOcean are integrable via corresponding extensions.

Variants Overview

The Miniserver Gen 2 is the current main device for larger installations: 24 V DC, DIN rail mounting, up to 50 extensions connectable. The Miniserver Go is more compact and battery-powered, suitable for mobile use or retrofitting.

The Miniserver Nano targets small applications: it has a limited number of inputs and outputs, no extension bus and fits in standard installation boxes. For commercial buildings there is the Miniserver Plus with increased resource capacity.

Programming and Commissioning

The Miniserver is programmed exclusively with Loxone Config, a free Windows application. The configuration is saved as a .loxone file and transferred to the Miniserver via Ethernet. No special hardware is required on site, a laptop with network access suffices.

Unlike KNX there is no physical address assignment per device. Sensors and actuators are defined in Loxone Config as inputs and outputs of the Miniserver and then logically linked via function blocks.
